A peer-reviewed study conducted at a Level 1 trauma centre and published in the journal Trauma has found that DEX significantly improved patient satisfaction scores for fasting surgical patients.
About the Study
Researchers from Monash University assessed patient satisfaction following the introduction of DEX in trauma patients fasting preoperatively at a Level 1 adult trauma centre.
Key Findings
Hunger scores dropped significantly - median scores fell from 7 to 3 following DEX introduction (p=0.004)
Thirst scores improved - median scores fell from 7.5 to 4 (p=0.018)
No adverse events or theatre timing issues were associated with DEX use
